Prof. Otomar Kittnar

We are thrilled to announce that Prof. Otomar Kittnar, MD, PhD, MBA, has graciously accepted the position of Honorary President at King Charles College, our esteemed medical institution. With his extensive expertise and remarkable achievements in the field of medicine, Prof. Kittnar is a highly esteemed addition to our college.

Born on April 2nd, 1953, in Prague, Prof. Kittnar’s educational background is as impressive as his career. He graduated from the Medical Faculty at Charles University in Prague in 1978. Continuing his academic pursuits, he earned a PhD degree in Human Physiology and Pathophysiology in 1983. Demonstrating his commitment to continuous learning and growth, he obtained an MBA from the Prague International Business School in 2004.

Prof. Kittnar’s work experience exemplifies his dedication to medical education and research. From 1978 to 1996, he served as an Assistant Professor at the Institute of Physiology, Medical Faculty, Charles University in Prague. Following that, he held the position of Associate Professor at the same institute until 2004. Since then, Prof. Kittnar has been a Professor and the Head of the Institute of Physiology at the Medical Faculty, Charles University in Prague.

Throughout his career, Prof. Kittnar has made significant contributions to medical education and research. He has been a member of the Scientific Board of the 1st Medical Faculty at Charles University since 2002 and served as the Vice Dean of the 1st Medical Faculty from 1999 to 2016. In 2016, he became a member of the Dean’s Board and currently serves as the Vice Dean of the 1st Medical Faculty since 2020.

Prof. Kittnar’s international exposure and collaboration have enriched his knowledge and expanded his horizons. He has undertaken study visits at prestigious institutions such as the Institute of Cardiology at the Armenian Academy of Sciences in Yerevan, Armenia, the Institute of Biomechanics at the University Mie in Japan, the Clinical Department of Cardiology at the University of Marseille in France, and the Laboratory of Medical Informatics at the University of Manchester in Great Britain.

His prolific research career is evident from his bibliography, as documented by the Web of Science. Prof. Kittnar has published 99 papers in scientific journals, accumulating 593 citations (excluding self-citations). His contributions to the field are recognized by an H-index of 13, which showcases the impact of his research.

Prof. Kittnar is an active member of several international societies, including the International Society for Electrocardiology, the International Union of Physiological Societies, and the Federation of European Physiological Societies. Through his involvement, he has fostered collaboration and knowledge exchange on a global scale.

His research interests encompass various aspects of cardiophysiology and electrocardiology. Prof. Kittnar’s expertise lies in the electrical heart field, arrhythmias, mechanical performance of the heart, and mechanical support of the failing heart. His groundbreaking work in these areas has contributed to advancements in the understanding and treatment of cardiovascular conditions.
